From our list of guild members exhibiting quilts in our quilt show, 2 names were drawn to receive $25 gift certificates from a vendor or sponsor at our show. The 2012 winners are: Ola Pfaff and Patti Geidel. Congrats!!

For those of you who like “numbers”: 179 items were entered in the quilt show by 96 people. Of our 72 guild members, 30 members entered 85 pieces.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2012 quilt show – it was great!! Pam Moroder presented such a varied & thoughtful exhibit; Kathy entertained the masses with the bed peels & trunk shows; food was delicious; vendors, Grannie’s Attic, and Silent Auction provided plenty of purchasing opportunities; charity items were sewn; and the main feature – the quilts – were wonderful. A special thank you to our Friday evening crew – especially the new members and those bringing husbands (many hands make a big job go faster). And the news from late Sunday: Raffle Quilt won by Patti Geidel; Viewer’s Choice won by Milw. Art Quilters (The Jennings Homestead).

The Craft & Quilt Show
The It’s A Stitch Craft & Quilt Show was originally developed by guild members as a way to sell quilts & related craft items. It was always held the Saturday/Sunday before Thanksgiving (and 1st week-end of deer-hunting season) at Heidels Restaurant. The group continues with some guild members, but that is not a requirement. They are moving their show site to New Hope United Church of Christ in Jackson on that same week-end (November 17 & 18, 2012). The group, now under the leadership of Gail & Aaron Ziegler, is extending an invitation to guild members to join; new members are juried in, and they ask for photos of the work from anyone wishing to join. They are looking for “select new additions” to the crafts area which are not in direct competition to others in the group. Quilts and wall hangings are always welcome.

If interested, email: ziegler@countrycreationsantiques.com

Pam Moroder would appreciate any Christmas cards you can get to her. She is involved with a program called Trees from Home, which sends small Christmas trees and other goodies to the troops overseas. Please keep bringing them in.

Please get newsletter articles to Diane Jordan by June 10. quiltdmj@gmail.com

Quilt Show Bed Peel
Please consider bringing in quilts for the bed peel. They should be quilts that reflect our theme – Spring Gatherings. Drop them off at the Quilt Factory on Monday, April 30 from 2-7pm, or on Tuesday May 1 from 2-7pm. The dates and times are the same ones for dropping off all the items you plan on entering into our quilt show on May 5th and 6th.

Quilt Show – new for 2012
As an added incentive to guild members, we are offering 2 – $25 gift certificates to area quilt shops through a drawing. Each member will have one chance to win for each item entered in the show. One member suggested that she keeps a list of items completed through the year so she remembers to enter them in the quilt show. Finish those projects – it could send you shopping!!

Hostesses for February’s meeting: Helen Goetz, Beth Wachs, Sharon Ostermann, Ellen Adgate, Pauline Underwood, Kathie Bruhn

Hostess for the March meeting: Colleen Rasmusen, Jeanniene Rakowski, Deb Kinder, Diane Jordan

Because of a winter storm on the night of our last meeting, many of you did not hear the plans for our next February meeting. We will have a guest speaker, Eileen Daniels. She will be presenting “Orphan Blocks”, ideas to use up blocks that we made, aren’t using and can’t think of throwing away!

This will also kick off our guild challenge. Go through your stash of “orphan blocks” or mini UFO, seal it in a brown or non see through bag and bring it to the February meeting. We’ll have a basket at the door for you to place it in. At the end of the meeting, after you have been filled with inspiration, pick a bag from the basket, take it home and create something with your new block.

The March meeting is “National Quilt Month” which will be the time that we want to show and tell about our new block creation.

This is meant to get your creative juices flowing while having fun!

You could put a few blocks in one bag, but remember we only have one month to complete our challenge. Therefore, we don’t want to make it too overwhelming. The question was brought up at the last meeting if we could bring more than one bag. We agreed that we could do so, in the event that a member forgot to bring one or decided to join in the fun but hadn’t brought one.

If you have many, many unwanted blocks and they are red, white and blue, you may consider giving them to Belle.
If it’s a large project, you may consider donating to granny’s attic.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Wisconsin Memorial Project
Just wanted to remind you of our workshop this Saturday. We have plenty to do for all skill levels and interest. I have a couple of tops that need the final border, a couple of quilts that need binding, kits we can put together, blocks that can be made, stars to draw, binding to cut, cutting, ironing etc. There is something for everyone. Come join us for a day of sewing fun. No cost!

SILENT AUCTION!!
First a great big THANK YOU to all the members that participated in the Silent Auction. We had a wonderful variety of items. The general public seemed to enjoy the fact that we had a number of smaller items to bid on. Next we have a mystery question! The question is which member made and donated the seasonal Kleenex box covers? We want to make sure the member gets credit for the donation. Please call or email me. Thanks. Sharon Ostermann and the Silent Auction Committee
Treasurer’s Note: The final (I think!!) silent auction total was $1876.85.
