Because of a winter storm on the night of our last meeting, many of you did not hear the plans for our next February meeting. We will have a guest speaker, Eileen Daniels. She will be presenting “Orphan Blocks”, ideas to use up blocks that we made, aren’t using and can’t think of throwing away!

This will also kick off our guild challenge. Go through your stash of “orphan blocks” or mini UFO, seal it in a brown or non see through bag and bring it to the February meeting. We’ll have a basket at the door for you to place it in. At the end of the meeting, after you have been filled with inspiration, pick a bag from the basket, take it home and create something with your new block.

The March meeting is “National Quilt Month” which will be the time that we want to show and tell about our new block creation.

This is meant to get your creative juices flowing while having fun!

You could put a few blocks in one bag, but remember we only have one month to complete our challenge. Therefore, we don’t want to make it too overwhelming. The question was brought up at the last meeting if we could bring more than one bag. We agreed that we could do so, in the event that a member forgot to bring one or decided to join in the fun but hadn’t brought one.

If you have many, many unwanted blocks and they are red, white and blue, you may consider giving them to Belle.
If it’s a large project, you may consider donating to granny’s attic.

Just wanted to remind you of our workshop this Saturday. We have plenty to do for all skill levels and interest. I have a couple of tops that need the final border, a couple of quilts that need binding, kits we can put together, blocks that can be made, stars to draw, binding to cut, cutting, ironing etc. There is something for everyone. Our quilt show is approaching fast. There is a great way to advertise your business or another business in our quilt show brochure. Ask you hair stylist, nail artists, printing shops, restaurants, or any other business you think would be interested in placing an ad.
There are three different sizes for the ad: 1) A business card, $25.00 2) Half page ad 4″x5″ – $50.00 3) Full page ad 8″ x5″- $75.00.

September Meeting Reminder:
“It’s A Stitch” September Meeting will be held at the Wisconsin Quilt and Fiber Art Museum. The Museum is located at N50W5050 Portland Rd. Cedarburg, WI.

We can view the Exhibit , however, we must arrive between 6:00 and 6:15 PM. The standard fee to view the Exhibit is $6.00. Since we have reserved the “Gathering Room” and are a supportive Quilt Guild, we will be getting a reduced rate of $4.00, to view the Exhibit.

The Guild will pay for each MEMBER’s entrance. It is Strongly suggested that each member wears her name tag.

Please note if there are guests, they will need to pay their own entrance fee.

Our meeting will begin at our normal time – 7:00 PM. A member of the Quilt History Museum will give a timely presentation. Join us for this special evening.

(To reach the Museum: Get to Cedarburg, the main street is Washington – take Washington to Columbia, (that is the corner where Material Matters is.) It’s a Stitch Quilt Guild awarded special ribbons and cash awards “to promote the art of quilting” as follows: Washington County Fair ($10 each) to Evelyn Wolff of West Bend in the Senior Citizen Bed Quilt Category; Marilyn Nadelhoffer of Hartford in the Open Class Bed Quilt Category; Carol Nothem of West Bend in the Open Class Holiday Quilt category (Christmas Tree Skirt); and at the Wisconsin State Fair ($25 each) “Judges’ Choice” Awards to Joan Ledanski of Pleasant Prairie, WI for a hand quilted lap quilt and Janel Sopa of Franklin, WI for a machine quilted lap quilt. Thank you to Margaret Gawlik for taking care of the fair awards.

It is very exciting that our 2012 “Spring Gathering” Raffle Quilt was chosen to be on the cover of the WRBQ 18th Edition Midwest Regional Directory “The Quilt Shop Navigator.” This directory will be available in 19 states and 2 provinces. Besides the colored cover picture, the directory will also include an article about the making of the quilt with free advertising for our quilt show. At some point, you may want to visit their website at TheQuiltShopNavigator.com. Please look for the directory in the fall at our local quilt shops. Along with the exciting news, Dianne was informed of the August 1 deadline for pictures of the completed quilt and other information. A small group of people deserve a special thank you for making this all happen: Dianne Pfeffer and Diane Balistriere for applying to WRBQ and organizing the completion of tasks; Cindy Salter for designing and quilting the raffle quilt (on a very limited timeline); Kathy Doman for applying the binding; Jeanne Heidel and Helen Goetz for writing an article on the design process; and Ken Goetz for the photography to meet the specific guidelines (and support from other guild members). We all look forward to seeing the publication.

Thank you to everyone who had any involvement in our 2011 guild quilt show – it was special in many respects and we received many compliments from our guests and exhibitors. It was great to see so many of our members entering and participating in any way. Our guest speaker was amazed that a guild of our size can put on such a complete show every year!!

QUILT SHOW TREASURER’S REPORT
We sold $2139.oo of raffle tickets for the raffle quilt. Our total profit from the raffle quilt was $1745.42. The show had 582 paid admissions for a total of $2910.00 (2009 – 616 people and 2010 – 636 people). Grandma’s Attic made a total of $3245.45. The Silent Auction made a total of $1846.85. Our TOTAL quilt show profit (NOT including Grandma’s Attic and the Silent Auction) was $1054.28.
